Tell us about yourself

I am a PhD researcher at the University of Leeds, using linked administrative data to investigate pathways into vulnerability among children and young people.

My research focuses on educational disengagement and post-16 outcomes, examining how individual, school and neighbourhood factors interact to shape the risk of becoming not in education, employment or training (NEET).

More broadly, my work explores how disadvantage and vulnerability develop across the life course, identifying inequalities in access to support and highlighting opportunities for earlier intervention. Through this research, I aim to contribute to more equitable, evidence-informed education and social policy.

I currently supervise several projects at the Leeds Institute for Data Analytics, focusing on the use of linked education and crime data to better understand childhood vulnerability and inform policy and practice.

Why did you want to become a Research Affiliate?

I was keen to join a network of researchers from a diverse range of disciplines and professional backgrounds, providing opportunities to share knowledge, learn from others’ expertise, and develop future collaborations around issues of vulnerability, inequality and public service provision.

How does your research connect to the Centre’s mission and values?

My work closely aligns with the Centre’s commitment to being inclusive, open, responsible and solution-focused. By taking a holistic and longitudinal perspective, my research seeks to understand how vulnerabilities emerge and evolve over time, how public services respond, and how evidence can be used to improve policy and practice. Ultimately, the goal is to support more effective and equitable responses to vulnerability and inequality across society.
